Final Activity Report Summary - AWARE (Next Generation Knowledge Management for Small and Medium sized Enterprises) Andras Förhécz was responsible for the technical analysis, design and realisation of the requirements that arose in the European research project 'Ambient learning' which dealt with web applications for knowledge management. Within the project Mr Förhecz added integrated and innovative additional functionality to the existing prototype for better support of e-learning approaches. He presented the results of his work in several meetings with project partners and reviewers. Mr Förhécz integrated the open source Hypertext markup language (HTML) editor FCKEditor into the prototype and created an interface for managing documents using Mozilla-based browsers. The object oriented development was achieved via the use of Borland Delphi. In the area of mobile applications for Knowledge management (KM), Mr Kis worked on various aspect related to mobile KM, such as: 1. Appforge Crossfire test developments for technology evaluation, related to the MoMa research project; 2. modelling and configuration of an innovative BlackBerry enterprise resource planning (ERP) server, including e-mail push and central administration; 3. prototype implementation of an innovative client in Java for BlackBerry; 4. data layer for direct data access using Java technology; 5. searching for new data representation and exchange method to gain flexibility with good performance. As far as the processes and groupware for KM were concerned, Mr Kicin led researches in the area of 'critical' KM for public and private organisations. He designed new innovative approaches and architectures in the area of quality and environment management. He developed: 1. an approach for use by European Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) on multilingual, context-adaptive applications for the management of quality management knowledge; 2. one architecture for risk management in small and medium-sized communities; 3. an approach for managing the key performance indicators in a dynamic network. Stephane Kicin submitted the project proposal 'Electronic risk management architecture for small and medium-sized communities' (ERMA) in the scope of FP6-2005-IST-5 call. This proposal was selected for funding and the project started in 2006. Stephane Kicin ensured the technical coordination of this proposal under the supervision of his tutor Spiros Alexakis. In terms of ontologies and semantic web technologies, two fellows, namely Albina Pace and Andras Balogh, joined the Fusion team. Fusion was an Information society technologies (IST) research project, funded by the European Commission. The Fusion project aimed at the efficient business collaboration and interconnection between enterprises. The objective was to develop a framework and innovative technologies for the semantic fusion of businesses applications that existed within several collaborating companies. Both fellows were involved in the approach and methodological phase of Fusion. The Fusion approach was based on a reference framework, i.e. it presented the functional architecture and a feasibility study on the technical architecture of the Fusion-enabled solution and described how this solution addressed problems of Enterprise application integration (EAI) within and across enterprises, including SMEs. The Fusion reference framework utilised web services, ontologies and semantic web technologies. The designed Fusion methodology enabled the efficient business collaboration and interconnection between SMEs by developing a framework for the semantic fusion of service-oriented business applications. Finally, regarding web 2.0 and SaaS approaches for KM, Istvan Ballok explored advanced technologies and evaluated them as a potential basis for a new generation of our Customer relationship management (CRM) products, namely web 2.0 technologies and SaaS - software as a service. He was committer for the Resource allocation programme (RAP) technology project of the Eclipse foundation. He finalised a calendar component prototype for the RAP Ajax framework that could be compared in its rich user interactivity to a desktop component. This component prototype was later successfully integrated in the new generation of CRM products at CAS. Several other custom components were also experimented. He was highly involved in the discussions of the next generation (e4) of Eclipse.
