Project description
Skin-wearable patches for detecting and monitoring infection
With communicable diseases such as Tuberculosis remaining a global challenge, efforts are being made to prevent and contain its morbidity and improve the methods of detection. Despite the measures taken to prevent its spread, fast and sputum-free triage tests are still missing. The EU-funded A-Patch project aims to overcome this problem by developing novel wearable diagnostic patches. These products will be cost-efficient, flexible, and accessible in rural areas. The A-Patch will allow for real-time remote detection and monitoring of infections. An innovative hybrid sensor array will use multiplexed detection capabilities to detect irregularities in the volatile biomarkers pattern from the skin headspace. A-Patch can be easily modified to detect and monitor other diseases, including COVID-19.
