We want to see how well projects do, to help them get traction. We will work with and build on the Repology open source project (https://repology.org) and open data set to track the adoption of and compare package versions in currently more than 120 package repositories. The package repositories represent the major operating systems, from different Linux and BSD variants, to OpenSolaris. Through Repology it becomes obvious how many repository families (e.g. all Debian versions are a single family) contain any given package. It also makes clear how fresh any given package is, and which outdated (and possibly insecure) versions are still out there - and who is the maintainer to approach for this. This will give an unprecedented overview of all 'our' NGI projects and their propagation in the market. The data is fetched hourly, giving an incredible up-to-date dashboard of real-world platform availability as an indicator for adoption.
