Periodic Reporting for period 1 - Bob (Creating the French Dyson: European leader on home appliances for tomorrow’s households.)

Período documentado: 2018-08-01 hasta 2018-12-31

Daan Tech has been working for 2 years on Bob, the world’s smallest (33*47*47cm), lightest (10kg) & fastest (20mins) plastic injection mould dishwasher; first autonomous 2 place settings countertop, which cleans & dries daily dishes of two persons, with low water (3L) & energy (0.25kWh) consumptions. Under the Grand Agreement No 827760, Daan Tech undertook a market and technical feasibility study to ensure the interest of the product and its technical feasibility before starting the industrialization process.
On the technical side, Daan Tech made a golden prototype with high resolution laser 3D printers to check the compliance of the design with our specs and help us to assess the interest for the product through a crowdfunding campaign. This also made us capable to estimate the required investment to start the industrialization process with a trustworthy estimated production cost thanks to a detailed Bill of Materials (BoM) and a feasibility study carried out by our main subcontractor. Finally, our compliance with EU standards was checked by an independent laboratory.
On the market side, the crowdfunding campaign which we managed directly from our website, allowed us to gather data about our customers and proven to be very successful since we raised more than 1.1M€ with pre-orders coming from several European countries. Bob proved to be very popular and caught the attention of many politicians, such as Mounir Mahjoubi, the French Secretary of State for Digital Affairs, Agnès Pannier, Secretary of State for Economy, MPs, and Arnaud Montebourg, the former French Ministry of Industry. The media coverage in France has been broad with articles and videos in the most important media (Le Figaro, France 2, France 3, Europe 1, 20 Minutes, Huffpost, etc.) that reached more than 10M French people. The word of mouth made Bob known abroad.
The grant agreement also allowed us to carry the industrial feasibility study with our main subcontractors, which is a former factory of Fagor-Brandt, located in Vendée, France, which proved successful and allowed us to start the industrialization study, in order to release the product on the market as soon as possible.
