Resumen del contexto y de los objetivos generales del proyecto

SHUTE Sensing Solutions develops, manufactures and sells optical sensing systems measuring strain, humidity and temperature to optimize industrial processes.
Construction industry is a fierce business with high value projects, tight profit margins for contractors and risk adverseness. Construction managers operate by rule-of-thumb principle and manual testing. SHUTE enables them to optimize use of their resources, improve quality and save money in connection to project delays and potential failures during and after construction.
SHUTE's sensors can improve environmental impact of construction activities, as well as increase safety of concrete city infrastructure, resources used or detect water leakage or mold development in residential homes.
Overall objectives of the project were to investigate our primary market segments and to plan the Phase 2 - demonstration activities and upgrading manufacturing process.

During Phase 1 we performed:
1. Market analysis – close dialogue with 12 most promising companies, where we assessed willingness to engage in demonstration activities and market potential. We concluded that construction is the key strategic sector with need for large volume of standardized systems.
2. We developed a business plan
3. Organizational development:
• 270k euro was raised
• We moved to a 250m2 production facility in Kvistgård and bought own lasers, polishing machines and testing equipment and plan to establish a draw tower and an automated grating system
• We hired: fiber expert, electro engineer, software engineer and mechanical engineer
• We signed exclusive license with DTU
4. We planned Phase 2 project, which will exploit outcomes of Phase 1

In the last 6 months we established:
1. Strategic partnering with potential customers
2. New physical infrastructure and team
3. IP clarification
Impact of Phase 1 related work can be summarized as follows:
1. Large-scale demonstration effort to showcase the potential of POF sensor will bring us to a TRL 8-9 maturity and assure go-to-market within the coming 2 years.
2. For construction SHUTE offers ability to improve their business case and competitiveness.
3. On a global scale, SHUTE can impact:
• Environment friendly construction processes, saving water, energy and waste
• Optimize the use of existing infrastructure (bridges, tunnels, or production halls)
• Smart buildings and the way users control indoor climate in residential homes or offices or enable insurance companies to predict a damage before it develops
