Chemical Biology at Cambridge - ChemBioCam

Objetivo

Biological chemistry is a vital discipline at the interface between chemistry and biology, which underpins the development of the European pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and agrochemical industries. This interdisciplinary subject is at a crucial and exciting stage, and the demand for trained personnel has never been higher. The aim of this project is to establish a centre of excellence in research training, which draws on the established strengths in Chemistry and Biology at Cambridge. The goal of the training programme is to bring together leading groups with diverse and complementary skills in structural biology (NMR and X-ray), molecular recognition, synthetic chemistry, manipulation of biosynthetic mechanisms, enzymology, mechanistic organic chemistry or protein science - all aimed at understanding and manipulating the molecular machines that nature has evolved. The understanding of the molecular basis of life will provide the ultimate foundation on which to develop the advances needed to eliminate disease. The training programme benefits from existing interdisciplinary structures within the University and seeks to enhance and develop these innovatively. It puts significant emphasis on developing entrepreneurial awareness, by including formal teaching on commercial issues and including interaction with SMEs.
