Automatic Collection of Road Attributes

Objective

The objective of AUTOCAT is to develop tools and equipment for the automated detection, localisation, identification and recording of road-signs under various outdoor lighting conditions from a vehicle running at normal traffic speeds (typically 50 km/h).

This project builds on results gained from the PANORAMA (2483) project. The implementation of the AUTOCAT system as well as the validation of its capability will be done using the PANORAMA vehicle.

The automated collection and localisation of visual information from road signs will form the basis for developments in the field of car navigation (on-board aid for vehicle guidance, digital maps, etc) and in the field of road network management and equipment maintenance.
