THE FIRST WEARABLE DEVICE DEDICATED TO THE WORLD OF COMBAT SPORTS TRANSFORMING SIMPLE TRAINING INTO A HIGH TECHNICAL REALITY

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - TECNE (THE FIRST WEARABLE DEVICE DEDICATED TO THE WORLD OF COMBAT SPORTS TRANSFORMING SIMPLE TRAINING INTO A HIGH TECHNICAL REALITY)

Reporting period: 2018-11-01 to 2019-03-31

In recent years, there has been increasing interest from sports in the power of science and technology to improve individual and team performance. Even many professional sports teams have witnessed the power of data analytics in identifying opportunities for improving players’ performance and preventing injuries.
Nevertheless, a wearable to monitor activity in the combat sports field is still to come. TECNE sensor wraps MKII (MKII from now on) is a solution that aims to fill this gap, redefining the way athletes and fighters train and help coaches to define their improvement strategies in the future of boxing and MMA
The objectives of the present project to make MKII a global leader in combat sports wearables are:
- Define the product requirements
- Define a working plan
- Select adequate technologies
- Define a commercial program and identify regulatory requirements
- Build a business plan
We have undertaken numerous meetings to carry out this feasibility analysis in which all the staff has participated. The collaboration among people with very different profile has allowed us to coordinate the elaboration of a technical workplan with a commercial plan to face the market. We have also defined the structure of costs and revenues.
The main results of this study are:
Technological Conclusions
- We have defined the HW and SW options and requirements to build a robust device with the capability to scale.
- We have defined the UI to help trainers to improve their performance.
- We have planed the conditions and the manufacturers to industrialize the mass production of MKII.
Commercial conclusions
- We have widened our offer including MKIIB tool (a graphic interface specifically dedicated to live streaming)
- We have updated our prices policy market share objectives.
- We have studied a multichannel strategy.
Financial conclusions
- MKII is viable under the assumptions we believe acceptable.
We think that is a profitable project and for that reason. We will also present this project to an SME Instrument Phase 2.
MKII is now a product that is beyond the state of the are in several aspects: is the only fight combat wearable that includes impact sensors and it is also the only with capability to gather, process and transmit data prepared for real-time broadcasting. These features will have the potential to disrupt the combat wearables offering and to impact the way that sportsmen train and audience enjoy these events.
