Summary of the context and overall objectives of the project

Our breast imaging solution is responding to the pressing needs of the healthcare sector when the incidence of breast cancer is increasing and expenditure growing along with the ageing population and expanding western lifestyle.

Our goal is to offer a device for cost-efficient, non-invasive and accurate breast check, which could be easily performed e.g. part of yearly general health exams or gynaecological visits. Near 50% of the breast cancers are detected outside the screening programs. Our method utilizes a patented infrared-wavelength scanning method, which looking for suspect time-variant patterns caused by abnormal tumour vasculature. See figure 1 for socio-economic factors of breast cancer in EU.

Work performed from the beginning of the project to the end of the period covered by the report and main results achieved so far

During the Horizon phase 1 we have been actively following and deepened our knowledge especially on and clinical requirements, market development and emerging technologies of breast imaging. We have opened doors to clinical test sites in order to collect clinical material needed for verifying our mathematical analysis algorithms, and for implementation of machine learning tools. We’ve been actively following the breast imaging market and technology development through publication reviews, market studies and commercial exhibition visit. We will continue with our original business plan but expect the launch to be delayed from the original plan. We will also be looking for possibilities to utilize our technology in other medical applications.

Progress beyond the state of the art and expected potential impact (including the socio-economic impact and the wider societal implications of the project so far)

We will go forward with the original business plan but expect it to take longer time than foreseen due to delays in starting longer-term clinical testing. By expanding the possibilities for women to check their breasts more often than easier, would have substantial favorable impact to socio-economic factors described in the figure 1.
