Summary of the context and overall objectives of the project

At Tretbox, (now known as ONO), we understood the need for transformative change in urban mobility and decided to first focus on the courier, express and parcel (CEP) delivery market. Delivery trucks and vans within cities cause road congestion, pollution and they take up valuable space.

We realized there was a need for a whole new category of vehicle. One that has the flexibility and benefits of a bicycle combined with the durability, reliability and cargo capacity of a van. So we created the ONO Pedal Assisted Transporter (PAT).

The objective of the Phase 1 project was to demonstrate that the company and its proposed solutions are a solid business venture by acquiring a deeper understanding of the market and market clearance, verifying the technical viability of the solution and improving our business model. All the acquired technological, commercial and financial feasibility data would go towards producing a comprehensive business plan.

We concluded that there is a pressing need for innovative delivery solutions and that the ONO PAT offers a flexible, reliable and cost-effective solution to operators and fleet managers.

Work performed from the beginning of the project to the end of the period covered by the report and main results achieved so far

During the period of this project, we conducted extensive research in order to fine-tune our pre-production prototypes (engineering and design wise). We conducted market and competitor analyses, as well as a Freedom to Operate analysis, in order to better understand risks and barriers, improve our business model, and establish a business development strategy and intellectual property protection plan. We created a detailed and comprehensive business plan, which outlined, among other things, our market segment strategy, pricing strategy and company resources analysis.

Progress beyond the state of the art and expected potential impact (including the socio-economic impact and the wider societal implications of the project so far)

While our aim is to start by making a positive and meaningful impact on our cities and our environment by changing the way we approach retrieving and delivering parcels, the ONO transporter has a purposefully-built platform that can be adapted to a variety of uses. We envision that in the near future, our ONO PATs are being used as personal transporters, taxis, city-utility vehicles, and much more. The impact would be making our cities safer, cleaner and more enjoyable.
