Day-to-Day Resource Management Systems

Objective

The objective of DAYSY is to create a toolbox of reusable software components that will make it possible to develop and deploy day-to-day resource management systems at a fraction of the current cost.

Significant advances in scheduling techniques based on constraint logic programming will endow these systems with real-time reasoning capabilities. Planners will have access to intelligent decision-making functions through group-oriented graphical interfaces.

The combination of intelligence and affordability will enable the European partners of the DAYSY project to deploy and market the next generation of scheduling systems ahead of their international competitors.

The DAYSY toolbox will provide several advanced components:

- generic tools for checking personnel schedules
- automatic rescheduling modules based on constraint logic programming
- real-time data management
- multi-screen graphical interfaces.

The DAYSY toolbox will be used to deploy a day-to-day crew scheduling system (CSS) for Lufthansa. The system will perform real-time rescheduling when last-minute perturbations occur, while taking into account the complex rules of the civil aviation authority and labour agreements.

The Lufthansa CSS will be the first reference of the toolbox. It will be a major marketing advantage for the exploitation of the results, as companies buying real-time resources management system insist on operational references.
