REFUGEES IN THE GLOBAL ECONOMY: SITUATION, ROLE, AND IMPLICATIONS: THE CASE OF SYRIAN REFUGEE WORKERS IN THE EXPORT INDUSTRY IN ISTANBUL

Project description

The impactful role refugee workers play in the global economy

Scholarship on refugees’ positive impact on a host country’s national economy typically concentrates on entrepreneurs or other select few. Refugee workers and their standing in the global economy is largely ignored. The EU-funded FMGESI project will examine the circumstances of Istanbul’s Syrian refugee workers and how these affect their daily lives. To do so, it will analyse the city and its borders as well as workers’ state of affairs. The project will contribute to the Horizon 2020 final work programme’s strategic orientations involving societal resilience and market creation innovation. In addition, it will deliver actionable recommendations for policy-makers on managing forced migration.
