Peripheral nerve Gel-based Orientation (Peripheral nerve injury recovery using Gel-based Orientation)

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - PeriGO (Peripheral nerve Gel-based Orientation (Peripheral nerve injury recovery using Gel-based Orientation))

Reporting period: 2019-08-01 to 2021-07-31

PeriGO is a project that explores from a technical and business perspective, the use of Anisogel as a solution for peripheral nerve injury. Anisogel, is a novel injectable biomaterial capable to create anisotropic structures by external manipulation of microelements using a magnetic field. The system offers a solution for complex tissues that require both linear structures and a minimally invasive application of the material. PeriGO focuses initially on product development and selects the product composition for in vivo testing, including defining suitable sterilization and storage methods. In addition, the project targets the development of the tools necessary in the operating room to apply this therapy. In a second stage, PeriGO is evaluated in vivo to test safety and efficacy of the therapy for PNI. Finally, a market analysis is carried out and a comprehensive business analysis is put together in order to choose the best path to commercialization and to establish the next steps necessary to bring this therapy into the market. The translation of novel medical devices, such as the Anisogel, into the clinic have the potential to alleviate patients suffering from PNI and enable them to regain function and part of their pre-injury life.
