Realistic Assessment of Historical Masonry Bridges under Extreme Environmental Actions

Project description

New tool to help preserve historical bridges

Historical masonry bridges are an integral part of the European Union’s transportation infrastructure as well as Europe’s cultural heritage. These bridges are endangered by extreme environmental conditions such as earthquakes and floods. The EU-funded RAMBEA project will create a tool to evaluate these dangers. The aim is to improve the practices of protecting and preserving these historical constructions. Via advanced technology based on numerical description researchers will produce a 3D presentation of the interaction between the parts of the bridge that undergo extreme stress.
