Propellant-Free Continuous-Dispensing Packaging Solution: From Commercial Pilot to Full Commercialization

Periodic Reporting for period 2 - Eco-Drive 2 Market (Propellant-Free Continuous-Dispensing Packaging Solution: From Commercial Pilot to Full Commercialization)

Période du rapport: 2020-04-01 au 2021-12-31

Present-day aerosols have serious drawbacks, stemming from the presence of compressed and, in most cases, combustible gas. They are confined to using pressurized packages that must be rigid and cylindrical, they come with inherent safety issues, they incur high manufacturing, transportation and handling costs, and the gas, metals and chemicals they require are harmful to the environment. Brands and consumers alike have been seeking a gas-free alternative to aerosols for continuous dispensing that is cheaper, safer, eco-friendly and that allows a wider variety of package materials and forms. GreenSpense has developed Eco-Drive, an innovative propellant-free dispensing solution for liquid and viscous materials. Eco-Drive provides an aerosol-like dispensing experience with many significant advantages including exciting new horizons for brand differentiation, 45% lower environmental footprint, recyclable/bio-degradable packaging, significant cost savings and fewer regulatory restrictions,
The project focus was to take Eco-Drive to TRL9, bringing it to serial production for large-scale commercial readiness in the European and global liquid-product-packaging market. The project has almost reached the stage of full production (to be completed in the next months due to Covid-19 related delays in supply), and the product is already in demand by brands from all market sectors, mostly by personal care, food and technical products.
The effort during the project was mainly for automating the production process of Eco-Drive and engaging with potential customers – those that would become the first paying customers for Eco-Drive. The challenge faced was of designing and building the proprietary work stations to perform the unique operations Eco-Drive construction requires, as well as automating them. As a result of delays caused during the pandemic period, the project is nearly finished in terms of production and achieved its goals in all other aspects, mainly in engaging global brands who are eager to purchase commercial quantities as soon as production starts.
The company is witnessing strong demand for Eco-Drive from all aerosol market segments, and from market segments outside the aerosol market, who are interested in providing a continuous dispensing package that does not involve gas. During the project period the consumer awareness of the negative impact of gas on human health and on global warming increased as a result of publications of new research on the matter. Regulatory pressure to reduce the negative environmental impact of packaging has further accelerated the need to find alternatives to aerosols. In response to this strong demand, the company plans to move forward, expanding its initial commercialization goals, and move into a wider range of market segments.
