Project description
Artificial intelligence for energy-efficient buildings
Buildings account for approximately 40 % of energy consumption. A focal point of the revised EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive is rating the smart readiness of buildings via the smart readiness indicator. The methodology considers the use of interconnected and intelligent technologies such as smart meters, building automation and control systems. The EU-funded project CACTUSes is developing an open-source artificial intelligence software to improve energy efficiency in large buildings and infrastructure. Integrating this in buildings creates a more personalised experience for their occupants, with significant energy- and cost-savings.
Objective
Automatique & Industrie (A.I.) presents a comprehensive service and tool named CACTUS Energy Suite (CACTUSes) designed for improving energy efficiency in the industry, large buildings and infrastructures, responding to the requirements of ISO 50001 and offering an intelligent and complete engineering approach to meet customers' needs and obligations .
CACTUSes is an outstanding all-in-one, open source-technology based software package incorporating artificial intelligence, making energy management easy and cost-effective together with perfect implementation on clients' premises by A.I. specialists. It can be implemented as SaaS or locally, for data safety reasons. The features reach from data collection and treatment as a support for ISO 50001 Energy Management System process, via data reconstruction, to facilitating Energy Performance Indicators-based energy reviews, virtual meters. A.I.'s implementation based on energy engineering expertise and assistance completes the software. The return on investment due to energy savings brought by CACTUSes is less than 2 years.
CACTUSes has been developed since 2011 and has now reached TRL9. Due to ever growing demand, A.I. seizes the opportunity to bring this innovative approach to the European market that will increase, and is expected to reach some EUR 200-300 M in 2030. A.I. targets 10% of market share in the EU starting with countries that have to implement Energy Management Systems (EnMS) starting with the frontrunners of the ISO 50001 implementation.
With a SME Instrument Phase 1 cofinancing, we shall refine the market study and business plan. Phase 2 cofinancing will be dedicated to setting up the commercialisation strategy, salesforce and distribution channels as well as to finalising some technical features. CACTUSes sales are expected to exceed EUR 20 M by 2030 and the leverage factor of a future SME Instrument Phase 2 cofinancing will exceed 15 over 15 years.
