Descripción del proyecto DEENESFRITPL Una funda especial para minimizar la recidiva del cáncer de vejiga El cáncer de vejiga es el noveno tipo de cáncer más diagnosticado en todo el mundo, con una tasa de incidencia mayor en varones del sur y el oeste de Europa, y de América del Norte, así como de algunos países del norte de África y del oeste de Asia. En Europa, se estima que hay anualmente un total de 118 000 nuevos casos y que provoca 52 000 fallecimientos. Aunque el tratamiento depende de lo avanzado que esté el cáncer, existe un alto riesgo de recidiva tumoral. El proyecto U-TURBT desarrolló un innovador dispositivo desechable (del mismo nombre) para cubrir y sellar la porción de la vejiga afectada por el tumor. La funda detiene la liberación y diseminación de las células tumorales, minimizando el riesgo de recidiva. Además, se mejorará para permitir la resección y extirpación del tumor de vejiga. Globally approximately 2.5M people suffer from it, with 420,000 newly diagnosed cases each year. In Europe, a total of 118,000 new cases and 52,000 deaths are estimated annually. With population growth and ageing, the absolute incidence of bladder cancer might be further escalating.Despite the increasing incidences, the current treatments remain ineffective. The gold standard Trans-Urethral Resection of Bladder Tumour (TURBT) has up to 61% risk of tumour recurrence due to incomplete removal or tumour cell implantation during the procedure.CML introduces U-TURBT, an innovative disposable device for the treatment of bladder cancer. By covering and sealing the portion of bladder affected by the tumour, it avoids tumour cell spillage and dissemination. By minimising the risk of recurrence, U-TURBT improves patients’ health and quality of life, and cuts down the expenses of the healthcare providers relative to additional treatments.During the feasibility assessment, a go-to-market strategy and a supply chain will be established, as well as further development plan will be drafted. During the second phase of innovation project, CML will upgrade the device to permit en bloc bladder tumour resection and extrication.
