6.4.6Ahhaa Exhibit: The ERA Chair will work with the Ahhaa Center in Tartu to create an exhibit that promotes photonics to a younger audience.
Masters' Degree on Photonics (s’ouvre dans une nouvelle fenêtre)3.3.1 Review Photonics Masters Programs in the Region: The ERA Chair will update the assessment of existing photonics master’s programs in the region (such as Vilnius and Eastern Finland) or the rest of Europe (Alborg University, Uppslala etc.) to identify the gaps that exist and determine if collaboration would be possible (such as development of double-degree programs or student exchanges). (M32 - M37)3.3.2 Identification of Student Skills Needed: The Curricula Committee (CC) will consult the Industrial Group and the International Scientific Advisory Group in identifying the skills most sought after in graduates by employers and academics. (M42-M47)3.3.3 Develop Program: Working with the Curricula Committee, the ERA Chair, will design an interdisciplinary MSc degree program on Photonics (with an emphasis on Computational Imaging) that will have a project-based focus and promote industrial connections (via secondments to firms working in the region). Courses will integrate the CIPHR team’s research, giving students opportunities to conduct practical work to reinforce theory. focus on later stages in the value chain, such as how to develop prototypes into usable products. Such an orientation would fill a gap that exists among other photonics MSc programs in the region (such as Vilnius), which are focused on earlier stages such as development of lasers. (M42-M59)3.3.4 If applicable: Apply for Accreditation and market for students: The MSc will be offered within the Institute of Physics or any other related institute and will have received input from staff of other institutes as well as from UT’s Technology Transfer Unit. Where possible, existing courses at UT, such as in the Institute of Computer Science or Institute of Technology will be included into the program. The ERA Chair will then apply for approval from the Institute Council, and then begin recruitment of applicants. (M60-M67)3.3.5 If applicable: Implement MSc Program: Within the timeframe of the CIPHR project, one group of students will be enrolled, totaling at least 20 students. Students will do secondments in commercial firms and internships in the CIPHR lab as part of their degree requirements. 6.1.3Communications and Dissemination Activities: Staff will coordinate press releases to disseminate new activities, achieved milestones and important discoveries during the course of the project on a global and local scale.
