Towards a more efficient exploitation of on-shore and urban wind energy resources

Deliverables

Task 5.2 public database

Complex terrain wind farm: documented public databases archived on ZENODOThe ESRs 2, 3, and 14 apply and compare their methods for the prediction of the performance of a wind farm over a complex terrain. The simulation methodology is now applying the mesoscale and microscale simulation procedure developed in WP1 for a range of atmospheric conditions highlighting the effect of diurnal, synoptic and seasonal changing inflow conditions on the power output and noise footprint of the wind farm.

Task 5.1 public database

Large onshore WT: documented public databases archived on ZENODOThe ESRs 1, 3, 6, 8, 9, 11 and 15 apply and compare their methods for a single large (> 5 MW) onshore wind turbine selected from existing literature, or made available to the consortium by SGRE under NDA, for which validation data on the power output and radiated acoustic levels at near-field certification point(s) are available. A multi-disciplinary optimization of that WT is then carried out, including the implementation of flow/acoustic control, and the improvements w/r to the baseline are quantified.

Work Package 4 final public report

Uncertainty Quantification, sensitivity analysis and optimization: final public report

Task 5.3 public database

Urban canopy: documented public databases archived on ZENODOThe ESRs 2, 5, 6, 7, 10, 12, 13, 14 and 16 apply and compare their methods for the prediction of the wind energy harvesting potential of a selected urban environment, preferably connected to a Smart Cities and Communities Lighthouse Project (in all likelihood the City of Nottingham). The focus will be placed on WT configurations showing the best perspectives of integration in an urban environment (VAWT, DAWT and BIWT), and the results should provide indications as to the most promising technologies in terms of power output, resilience w/r to changing atmospheric conditions and public acceptance.

Work Package 5 final public report

Application to existing and new benchmarks: final public report

Work Package 1 final public report

Mesoscale and microscale ABL simulations: final public report

Work Package 6 final public report

Guidelines for better designed and accepted WTs in rural and urban environments: final public report

Rotor aerodynamics, acoustics and structural dynamics: final public report

Task 8.3 Multimedia material demonstrating the technological achievements

Multimedia material demonstrating the technological achievementsTwo outreach movies will be shot by all ESRs. The first movie, produced at M12, will permit all ESRs to introduce themselves and their project objectives. A second movie directed to the general (non-scientific) audience will be shot by each ESR by the end of their PhD, exposing in a vulgarized way the context, challenges and outcomes of their research. This movie will constitute the practical exercise of a dedicated presentation skills course. A third movie will be prepared jointly by all ESRs and their supervisors, this time addressing a scientific (but not expert) audience. It will be aimed at illustrating, through scientific demonstrations including sound recordings, and making use of the demonstrator developed in Task 8.3 where possible, the effectiveness of the new materials and technologies developed during the project. The movies will be broadcasted through the dissemination channels listed in Section 2.3.1.

Web site

Web site including internet and intranet sections

Task 8.2 dissemination material

Basic dissemination material (posters and web pages) A general poster introducing the project global objectives and achievements, and one poster for each ESR project will be elaborated and displayed at each partner. In parallel, a personal web page will be posted and maintained by each ESR on the project web site, describing his/her research progress in more detail. Both web page and posters will be updated annually by the ESRs.
