Periodic Reporting for period 1 - Regen-membrane (Pulsed Electrophoretic Deposition to give Membranes for Regenerative Medicine)

The Regen-membrane project has assisted in further refinement and understanding of a novel manufacturing method for collagen-based membranes and devices, with a goal of producing highly tailored collagen implants for under-served clinical needs. The process builds membranes from pure biomacromolecules, thereby avoiding the biocompatibility issues inherent in decellularising tissue directly and allow for production of membranes in complex shapes, in larger sizes than current products, and with tailored properties. This technology allows for production of membranes that cannot be formed through other manufacturing routes, useful in a wide range of different treatments and industrial areas.
The Regen-membrane grant has allowed us to identify specific areas where our novel technology can rapidly make a large change to the current options available, and has enabled initial safety testing, development of a route to transition from benchtop to industrial scale manufacturing, as well as development of a business plan and successful formation of a spin-out company, CamRegen Ltd.
