Room Temperature Magnetic Resonance Force Microscopy

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - RTMFRM (Room Temperature Magnetic Resonance Force Microscopy)

Reporting period: 2019-08-01 to 2021-05-31

We developed a scanning-probe microscope with nanotube cantilevers in a magnetic field. Nanotubes cantilevers were fabricated by depositing a Pt particle on the nanotube for the optical detection of the cantilever while scanning the surface of interest. We are able to detect electric field gradients generated from the surface. A nanotube cantilever was placed on top of a current-carrying wire that produces a high gradient of magnetic field. First magnetic resonance force microscopy measurements were carried out. Our work shows that future nanotube cantilevers with higher force sensitivity are promising for nanoscale magnetic resonance imaging at room temperature.
