Keelcrab the Drone for an automated hull cleaning: fast & essential

Project description

Underwater robot keeps bottom of boats clean

To reduce fuel consumption and improve performance, sail and motorboats need clean keels. This is not an easy task considering the proliferation of algae due to climate change and warmer waters and the new rules limiting the use of toxic paints on keels. The EU-funded Keelcrab project has found a solution in underwater robotic technology. It’s a remote-controlled robot that cleans the keels underwater. The robot will be designed for professionals and boat owners, providing them with a cost-effective solution to keep keels clean. It’s described as the first of a new generation of underwater drones devised and manufactured to perform automated cleaning operations.

Objective

The underwater drone KeelCrab SailOne is the first R.O.V vehicle for the care of your hull entirely designed and built in Italy.
Fast, lightweight, practical, user friendly, you can easily reduce the consumption of your boat keeping your hull in a perfect state
with top performance. KeelCrab will contribute to stop usage of polluting antifouling paints and open the way for green solutions
with a safe respect for the environment and your wallet.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
