Project description
Packing more power in aerospace wound components
In any industry, improving power density and efficiency is key. As such, new instruments that can provide very short switching times attract considerable interest. This is because higher switching frequency in electrical devices leads to smaller and lighter motors, as well as generators and passive magnetic components. Such instruments are based on wide bandgap (SiC and GaN) semiconductors. This new technology can be tailored to fit the aerospace industry where electromagnetic parts require alternative coil winding fabrication procedures. The EU-funded AUTO-MEA project will develop new methods for an advanced and flexible coil fabrication system that will eventually lead to the establishment of a complete winding system for aerospace wound components with improved power density.
