The most common cause of visual health impairment is uncorrected presbyopia, a progressive loss of near vision due to the reduction of elasticity of the crystalline eye. It affects 100% of the population aged over 45, people in their prime professional life. Progressive addition lenses are the most preferred solution to correct presbyopia, since they provide a better field of vision and more attractive lenses. Currently, the personalization of progressive lenses is done by establishing the position of the geometric center of the pupil with respect to the users’ glasses, which is based on assumptions and standard values. Real personalization is required to eliminate visual distortion, aberrations and the long adaptation times of progressive lenses users. At Lentitech, we have developed ErgoFocus, a system to design 100% personalized progressive lenses based on clinical measurements of the user´s facial and optical parameters.
During the Feasibility Study period, Lentitech has established that we have freedom to operate and a strategy to protect and capitalize on our intellectual property. We have a designed a development plan to improve the technology and obtain medical certification. Commercially we have studied the market and competitors and have evaluated the strength of our product in order to elaborate a business and marketing plan. Financially we have performed a detailed analysis of the costs involved to reach TRL9 and a three years post project sales forecast.
With ErgoFocus we can design lenses with a high level of accuracy (~0.1 mm), eliminating common inconveniences of progressive lenses, such as the adaptation period and visual aberrations. During a preliminary study with our first prototype we have achieved 100% customer satisfaction, with 0% spectacles return rate so far, hence ErgoFocus system is able to assure adaptation warranty for every wearer. Lentitech aims to become the first company that provides real 100% personalized progressive lenses.
