Summary of the context and overall objectives of the project

Travelling with kids requires to transport heavy bulky child car seats. New parents now drive the market demanding for family-oriented travel products. Moreover, society demands getting around bigger urban areas conveniently and with little environmental impact. However, there is no flexible, foldable, light and safe child car seat solution in the market. Buying a new car seat for every stage can get expensive. Group 1/2/3 seats are increasing in popularity among parents nevertheless they are heavier and not usually i-Size compatible. Nachfolger addresses precisely these problems. 4ALL is an ultra-foldable child car seat to transport children between 9 and 36 kg. It has a convertible platform to adapt the seat for rear and for-ward-facing lateral protection. So 4ALL can be used in any travel situation guaranteeing the safety of children of all ages.

Work performed from the beginning of the project to the end of the period covered by the report and main results achieved so far

From a technical point of view, we have concluded to the technical tasks that need to be realized in order to lead 4ALL to commercialization. We have elaborated the plan in order to finalise the design and validate the car-seat including the requirements for the certification, as well as the selection of test laboratories where these tests will be performed. From a commercial point of view, we have elaborated a business plan to launch the 4ALL car-seat into the targeted markets. In the commercialization plan, FtO has been confirmed and we implemented an in-depth analysis of the targeted markets in order to evaluate the sector and the best penetration strategy. A pricing policy has been established as well as the identification of the target audiences and messages for them. From a financial point of view, we have estimated the costs to bring 4ALL to market and elaborated a financial plan, that showed positive figures that encourage the continuation of this project.

Progress beyond the state of the art and expected potential impact (including the socio-economic impact and the wider societal implications of the project so far)

Nachfolger seeks to revolutionize car-seat engineering thanks to its folding mechanism based in the inflatable SAS technology to enable a quick deployment/folding providing a substantial cost reduction for the parents and impeccable safety for children. With 4ALL we will become an industrial standard with a unique solution that will disrupt EU and international car-seat markets. Once the final design is tested and validated, we expect to hit the market by 2022, unblocking €30,7 million revenues with €10 million of cumulative profits by 2026. This will entail the enlargement of our workforce with 12 new employees.
