Objective The objective is to develop European technology that can dramatically contribute to increase recovery rates from hydrocarbon reservoirs. The technology is a smart well completion system, which can be remotely operated by means of an innovative hydraulic valve system for optimum reservoir management. Attempts in the industry to introduce an electro-hydraulic system have often failed in the harsh down-hole environment and is very expensive. The objective of the proposed technology is therefore to develop a purely hydraulic controlled system for obtaining high reliability, and to design it as a low-cost system for use in both high and low producers. Initial trials have proved the functionality and detailed design is underway. It is therefore proposed to develop a technical prototype and test it in simulated well conditions at a test facility. If successful, the technology can increase the recovery rate from applicable reservoirs by 10 percent.
