DataControl: Reliable, Secure and Comprehensive cloud backup as a service solution

Project description

Building safer cloud storage for businesses

Remote data storage in the cloud is becoming a convenient and reliable data storage solution for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). In fact, 78 % of SMEs are expected to back-up their data directly on the cloud by 2020. The biggest advantage of cloud storage is that businesses no longer need to worry about disasters, devices being damaged or important files lost. However, cloud storage includes challenges like data security, governance and geo-localisation. The EU-funded DATACONTROL project is developing a backup management tool for professionals working with Open Source databases stored in the cloud. It’s backup encryption, verification and geo-locality capabilities provides businesses with full control over their data.

Objective

Nowadays data is the most valuable asset of any organization, and its protection with backup and disaster recovery protocols is of utmost importance as 93% of companies that suffer major data losses file for bankruptcy within a year. New technology trends like IoT, open-source databases and cloud storage are revolutionizing how business store their data, and by 2020 it is expected that 78% of SMEs will backup their data directly on the cloud. While the cloud provides higher flexibility and data availability for businesses, it also creates new challenges, like data security, governance and geo-localization; challenges that have increased with the implementation of the GDPR last year. In order to respond to companies’ needs, we present DataControl, a complete and reliable backup management tool for all professionals working with Open Source databases stored in the cloud. It provides full integration with the top cloud hosting providers and most popular Open Source database management systems. DataControl’s backup encryption, verification and geo-locality capabilities will bring European companies a full control over their data, providing reliable backup operations.
Founded in 2011, Severlnines currently employs 30 people and has deployed its popular ClusterControl product to clients worldwide. Thanks to this project, we will gain a privileged position in the global cloud backup solutions market. We will increase our turnover in more than €7.6 million revenues only 3 years after commercialization, reaching more than 1,500 clients through partnerships with small and medium-size European hosting and cloud providers.
