IOT and cloud computing for online medical analysis service platform

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - DeltaQon (IOT and cloud computing for online medical analysis service platform)

Période du rapport: 2019-09-01 au 2020-02-29

We prove DeltaQon as an innovative prototype device that delivers high accuracy measurements of the movement of the human body through a portable and simple to use digital technology. The use cases for the device can span across a broad range of disciplines focusing in sports and rehabilitation, expert legal assessments and scientific research. However, the medical sector the most promising in terms of obvious benefits and as such this has been the focus for the first prototype release of the product (MovMe).
We have been able to validate that the device produces a simple and objective measurement of a patient’s movements which can help to detect degenerative diseases caused by accidents or bad movements. In this order of ideas. An opportunity is presented to solve an existing need in the sector of young athletes with a focus on High Sports Performance, with respect to recurrent injuries in a population of athletes from 6 years old.
For this, a collaboration agreement with the School of Health Sciences of TecnoCampus Mataró was started to develop a study that can predict injuries in young athletes and prevent them, using biomechanical analysis as the basis with the use of DeltaQon inertial sensor technology together with electromyography, and thus be able to:
• Understanding sports injuries as a complex concept therefore demands the interdisciplinary approach
• Prevention of sports injuries are the challenge for each discipline. Knowledge of different areas can support understanding
• Detection of bodily asymmetries and psychological risk situations can help to do the intervention necessary to avoid injuries
• Another objective is to be able to validate from the clinical point of view with a collaboration agreement with the Rehabilitation Service of the Hospital de Mataró (CSDM).
Market research was also done to know the economic and commercial viability of development of DeltaQon from a prototype to a fully viable commercial product.
This feasibility study explores the market opportunities and the technical improvements of “DeltaQon, an IOT and cloud computing for online medical analysis service platform”. These activities were financed by the SME instrument Phase 1 grant n. 876021. The project started on September 1st, 2019 and ended on February 29th 2020.
The activities to be performed during the project are summarised in the following tasks:
Task 1: Technical feasibility (Month 1 – Month 6)

We are working on a collaboration model between Innovem S.L. and the Consorci Sanitari del Maresme CSDM to exchange technology for information, carrying out tests with the biomechanical evaluation system based on inertial technology DeltaQon in the clinical evaluation of pathologies that affect the functionality of the musculoskeletal system.
The collection and interpretation of objective data, and the analysis by the Physical Rehabilitation service of Mataró Hospital, will make it possible to deepen the knowledge and understanding, helping to identify future opportunities. Likewise, it will allow, with the process of the information collected, to make better decisions that directly affect the improvement of processes and treatments of the patients of the physical rehabilitation service of the Mataró hospital, shortening the recovery processes.

Task 2: Market study (Month 1 – Month 4)The study was sectioned by application areas. Promotional material was prepared, consisting of an explanatory video and various presentations. Then a schedule of visits was made to potential customers and distributors.
An investigation was made of all products with similar technologies and substitutes that are on the market currently, being able to check several commercial houses that distribute them and contacting with similar companies that manufacture them, i.e. Biomech Solutions , Dycare and Can Peu .
In the case of Can Peu, a commercial visit was made to discuss some substitute products for joint measurement, and what their market was, and the possibility of entering into a DeltaQon distribution agreement.
Result: It was found that there are several devices on the market for measuring joint movement, this technology has not been able to spread for various reasons. It was also verified that the distribution route must be different from the rest, since DeltaQon is based on a comprehensive service and not on the sale of equipment, so a new distribution channel based on the service must be implemented.
