Periodic Reporting for period 1 - Spira (Efficient Industrial Air Compressor)
Période du rapport: 2020-01-01 au 2020-04-30
Currently, there is a missing link in the chain of utilizing renewable energy. In order to enable humanity to fully transition to renewable energy, and stop using fossil fuels, the world needs a solution that can store large amounts of energy, over long periods of time, in a cost-efficient way. This is the origin of Spira Energy. We develop the world's most efficient large-scale energy storage. We convert surplus electricity from renewable energy sources, such as sun- and wind power, into compressed air that we store in depositories on the bottom of the sea, where the pressure from the water depth keeps the air compressed. The process can later be reversed when the energy is needed. This way, we can balance out fluctuations in renewable electricity generation against society's consumption, and we create conditions to phase out the use of fossil fuels.
We have patented the technology and verified the performance in several installations. Our objective of this project is to obtain a better strategical position for the next phase by:
• Developing upstream (supplier) and downstream (customer) criteria and strategy
• Developing supply chain management with focus on cost-effective production methods and more accurate product calculations
• Developing our collaboration with our current pilot customer
• Listing and ranking desirable customer characteristics/criteria, as well as supplier criteria.
• Performing customer analysis by visiting customers, gathering information about different segments, and evaluating their characteristics. The supplier analysis was performed similarly to investigate which suppliers across Europe that fit us best.
• Establishing and selecting strategical customers and suppliers.
• Analyzing the company's potential supply chain to decide on supplier strategy and manufacturing strategy.
• Investigating and developing manufacturing methods for scaling production, to reduce costs and enable flexibility in product design.
• Developing a sophisticated tool for cost-calculations, for different production volumes and product variations.
• Further improving our relationship with our current pilot customer. We have developed a launch plan to sell and install several units to the customer and we have successfully executed the first steps of the plan.
By analyzing the electricity production, export, and import, in Sweden and Denmark, we can quantify the value of the storage solution to 8 Billion SEK/year in Sweden, and 13 Billion SEK/year in Denmark, only considering wind-power.
