Multi-Site Coupled Simulation for Advanced collaborative design

Project description

Open-source collaborative simulation platform for aircraft components

In aircraft manufacturing, separate components are designed and produced by different companies. The EU-funded MUSICA project aims to develop an open-source collaborative co-simulation platform to simulate separate aircraft components that are designed by separate entities. This unique computation fluid dynamics simulation will be used by both academia and industry, and it will ensure that intellectual property is protected. The technology entails code-to-code coupling, communication between two private networks and co/post-processing of the simulation. The project will help to advance aircraft simulation technology.

Objective

The objective of MUSICA is to develop and to setup an open-source collaborative co-simulation platform that could be used by both academia and industry to simulate separate aircraft components (such as a fan and an airframe) designed by separate entities, in a unique CFD simulation, while ensuring that intellectual property is protected. This involves code-to-code coupling, communication between two private networks, and co/post processing of the simulation.
The approach chosen in MUSICA relies on the new generation open platform OMNIS developed by NUMECA for the management of complex projects involving multi-physics simulations.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.

IA - Innovation action

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Net EU contribution

Net EU financial contribution. The sum of money that the participant receives, deducted by the EU contribution to its linked third party. It considers the distribution of the EU financial contribution between direct beneficiaries of the project and other types of participants, like third-party participants.
