Action Context
The growth of 5G wireless RF-Microwave communication solutions is an exciting area of research due to its ability to accommodate more users at higher data rates.
The penetration of smartphones for universal wireless connectivity has increased the adoption of an additional frequency spectrum for cellular wireless use.
Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), therefore, actively using Radio-Frequency (RF) and MicroWave (MW) Computer Aided Design (CAD) solutions to anticipate the performances of their products.
CAD tools allows OEMs developing innovative system architectures in a timely manner, avoiding iterative design flows, time-consuming and costly prototyping and measurement steps

Objectives of the work
AMCAD is a European leader which provides unrivaled modeling solutions of RF-Microwave circuits for system designs. The objective of this work was to leverage this unique expertise, to pave the way towards the best strategy.
Creating new CAD tools for RF-Microwave system designs can accelerate our customer’s product development.
Knowing that entrenched competitors have strengthened their position in our industry, most of them are US companies, the intend of the EDITUS project was to lead a market analysis about Global Radio Frequency (RF) and Microwave Computer Aided Design (CAD) Software to help AMCAD refining its
strategy, based on a SWOT analysis.
Main results achieved and potential impact

• Along with the coaching received during the phase 1, a clear definition of the value proposal of our products has been done. A SWOT analysis of AMCAD has been led, with a focus on our product functionalities, and market access.
• Direct interviews with customers have been led.
• The top executive management of the main leaders in our industry has been interviewed.
• An analysis of the competitive landscape has been performed.
• A market analysis about Global RF-Microwave Computer Aided Design (CAD) Software has been done, to define the optimal strategy to reach AMCAD’s ambition.
• A strategy has been proposed, knowing the market background, and the threats and opportunities related to our competitors and partners.
The use of software tools for circuit modeling and simulation of high frequency electronic systems is now becoming a must for all OEMs developing communications equipment.
Without these tools, it is impossible to develop high-performance circuits that meet communications standards with great level of confidence. Our simulation tools, to our knowledge, are the only ones in Europe which can offer such advantages.

AMCAD wishes to become a leading European player, providing software tools to make the design flow of high frequency electronic circuits more reliable. With the help of this software, communication equipment will be more efficient and less energy consuming. Today, reducing the energy consumption of 5G equipment is a major challenge to fight the global warming. At its level, AMCAD offers solutions which make it possible to design energy-efficient and powerful communication systems. The underlying social and economic impact of this project is therefore important.
