ANNEALING-BASED VARIATIONAL QUANTUM PROCESSORS

CORDIS provides links to public deliverables and publications of HORIZON projects.

Links to deliverables and publications from FP7 projects, as well as links to some specific result types such as dataset and software, are dynamically retrieved from OpenAIRE .

Deliverables

Assessment of hardware upgrades for improved devices (opens in new window)

In this deliverable we will report on the design of basic superconducting qubits and tuneable couplers modelling realistic effects of crosstalk and decoherence With this information we will elaborate realistic implementations of variational quantum algorithms and their feasibility for implementation using the proposed hardwareWe will also report on the progress in building a classical simulator using a supercomputer

Fabrication of 5-qubit quantum annealing demonstrator (opens in new window)

In this deliverable we will report on the production of a lowimpedance 5qubit device being the baseline for benchmarking experiments in WP3 following extensive design and simulation using feedback from task 41 This annealer will contain a qubit network with 10 rfSQUIDtype couplers The flux qubits will be optimized for QA with capacitiveshunting

Operational optimized 3-qubit annealer (opens in new window)

In this deliverable, we will report on the production of an optimized 5-qubit coherent quantum annealer containing non-stoquastic couplers. The device will be engineered with high qubit coherence, low crosstalk between control lines, unwanted spurious qubit couplings. The device production will include optimized packaging produced by DELFT.

Optimized design for multi-qubit and non-stoquastic couplers (opens in new window)

In this deliverable we will report on designs and simulations to produce circuits that generate a twobody interaction of the type XX known as nonstoquastic or nonIsing as well as circuits that generate a multiqubit coupling term beyond 2 qubits

Blueprint of large-scale CQA, with on-chip TWPA (opens in new window)

In this deliverable, we will produce a blueprint of a large-scale coherent quantum annealer. This blueprint will include new circuit elements such as long-range qubit-qubit couplers and on-chip parametric amplifiers.

Quantum software beyond QA (opens in new window)

In this deliverable, we will report on the study of near-term applications of our quantum simulator beyond pure quantum annealing. We will consider general adiabatic and non-adiabatic passages, combined with local potentials and instantaneous gates, as a general way to construct many-body wavefunctions, with which to implement variational algorithms and quantum simulations. Benchmarks against existing online platforms such as IBM Q and D-Wave will be thoroughly conducted. In addition, we will report on the designing of annealing schemes for the coherent devices, adapting them to the expected/measured qubit level structure, and studying the influence of Markovian and non-Markovian environments

Project Management and Quality Guidelines (opens in new window)

In this deliverable we will document administrative project management procedures quality assurance and risk managementThe report will include description of communication channels between all partners as well as defining and maintaining internal collaborative tools for sharing documentation and communicating work status One of the outcomes will be a Project Portal shared workspace that will be updated throughout the project and a project logo

Operational wideband parametric amplifier for QA (opens in new window)

In this deliverable we will report on the production of an optimized traveling wave parametric amplifier TWPA to obtain an easytouse device and validated using multiqubit devices fabricated by UG Optimization of the readout efficiency for strongly anharmonic qubits such as flux and fluxoniumtype qubits will be carried out Figures of merit such as readout efficiency and crosstalk will be quantified

Prototype of CQA with high impedance circuits (opens in new window)

In this deliverable we will report on the production and characterization of highimpedance coherent quantum annealers using fluxoniumtype qubits and their use in quantum annealing applications

QA studies in low/high impedance circuits (opens in new window)

In this deliverable, we will report on the downselection process carried out to determine the optimal qubit type to build a large-scale quantum annealer. The downselection will compare qubits with low (IFAE) and high (KIT) impedance. Selection metrics will also include: crosstalk, coherence, reproducibility, scalability, noise. In addition, we will report on studies of the quantum annealing efficiency as function of qubit coherence, non-adiabatic schemes. The device will also be reprogrammed to implement quantum simulations (analogue & digital) and variational quantum algorithms.

Data Management Plan (opens in new window)

In this deliverable following the Open Research Data Pilot we will document the lifecycle for all data sets collected processed and generated by AVaQus The data management plan will evolve along the project outlining data handling during and after the project what data will be collected following what methodology and what standards and whether it will be made open and how it will be preserved
