Objective
Many companies in the agro-industries are shifting their priorities from mass production to quality optimisation due to changing customer requirements.
While traditional packing houses are able to automatically handle high amounts of fruit and vegetables, sorting criteria are limited and complementary cost-intensive manual operations are necessary for quality sorting and packing.
The SHIVA project aims to develop sensor and handling systems for automatic sorting, quality evaluation and packing of fresh products.
The overall goal is to design and implement an integrated system including:
- new sensor systems for online quality control
- robot cells equipped with vision and sensor systems for optimum sorting and packing
- flexible fruit box handling systems, optimised for different products and containers
- CIM management of the packing line, using advanced control system architecture.
