Non-polluting - free of waste

Objetivo

Cooling and bleaching of special pulp qualities will be carried out without waste water. By help of a computer modelling a process model will be created which is able to control both a highly modernized pump mill (like in Saxonia) and less modern pulp mills (like in Russia). The aim is the reduction of the BOD load in the Baltic Sea.

During the production of pulp effluents with a chemical (COD) and a biological (BOD) load occur in several processing steps. The effluents of the bleaching station is loaded with such substances, which are not removable in waste water purification plants. In order to release partly the effluents from their load the delignification will be extended during the cooking phase up to a very high delignification level. In this manner the demand of bleaching agents will be reduced and therefore, the output of COD and by using such chemicals which can be recovered, the bleaching station works without effluents. For controlling such a combined cooking and bleaching process a computer model for process controlling will be developed which considers changes of the chemicals input to the process, based on a novel type of sensors implemented into the process, and modern controlling strategies in including mathematical models, fuzzy logic and neural networks. The model will be optimized at a modern equipped sulfite mill in Saxonia (Germany) and must be adaptable on the instrumentation of less modern sulfite mills eg in Russia. The sulfite mill in Sovjetsk (Tilsit/Russia) will be a demonstrator for this region.
