Objective
The object of this project is the development and implementation of a Demonstration Plant to convert HCH in trichlorobenzene.
The problem of contaminated soils and HCH wastes has been measured in Europe and the contaminated sites reach 100 to 500 with recovering costs of about 10 to 50 billion DM.
The main objective of this project is the development of an innovative technology to convert HCH wastes into trichlorobenzene. This compound can be used as raw material in the industry. This process is cost-effective in comparison with other technologies used presently.
To achieve this objective four steps will be developed, the final one will include the starting of the plant.
This new technology in cathalysed dehydrodechlorination of halogenated compounds will be of application in the rest of the European Community and the world, were HCH landfills and contaminated soils exist.
As a first experience, this plant will treat all the HCH in landfills in the Basque Country, however this step is considered out of this project.
