Multiple use of marginal urban areas: implementation of photovoltaic roofs on AEM's buildings

Objective

- To prove that building roofs can be used in a reliable way to produce electricity with a benefit for the environment.
- To awaken public opinion to renewable energies.
- To stimulate the implementation of similar installations.

The project consists in the implementation of 2 photovoltaic installations on the roof of 2 AEM's buildings.

The installations, rated 4 kW, and 20 kW, each, will use crystalline silcon modules and will be sited in the central part of the city of Turin.
The electricity produced by photovoltaic array will be fed into the public grid supplying the building and will be accounted in reduction of the electricity consumed by the building itself.

As a consequence of the absolute lack of pollutant emission, the electricity produced in these photovoltaic installation will enable to avoid the emission of the following quantities of pollutants otherwise produced in conventional oil fired thermoelectric installation:

20800 kg/year of carbon dioxide
150 kg/year of sulphur dioxide
36 kg/year of nitrogen dioxide
4.5 kg/year of dust.
