Objective
The project is aimed at providing the Planning Authority of Malta with the technical assistance necessary to develop a dynamic land management planning model of the Maltese islands as an integral part of the national planning process.
The project will draw on the technical expertise of the Centro di Telerilevamento Mediterraneo to provide a framework for the various sources of information required to develop land management policies to ensure a sustainable development approach to the mangement of the Islands' resources.
The tools of the project will consist of techniques such as remote sensing and Geographical Information systems. The processed information will be used directly to develop overall land management policies as proposed in the structure plan of the Maltese Islands.
The resulting dynamic model will allow the development of processes for the constant monitoring of environmental change in the Maltese Islands and serve as a model for similar initiatives in the mediterranean.
