Objective
To demonstrate that it is possible using rotary screen printing technology to produce high quality wallpaper with waterbased printing pastes (without PVC and hydrocarbonates) with 80% less energy and 97% less water than in conventional machines. The outcome is a series of demonstrations and a report.
The use of conventional water-based printing pastes in the graphic industry is limited, mainly due to the energy required for drying each individual colour printed. Recently, a new rotary screen printing technology has been developed, which makes it possible to print these pastes according to a wet-in-wet process. This so-called Aquaprint process not only has many environmental benefits but also consumes less energy. Hence, the Aquaprint process will avoid high material and operational energy costs, with the Aquaprint hardware being much simpler and, therefore, cheaper than with traditional technologies. The proposal covers a pilot project accommodating the first fully equipped wallpaper printing line, which will be available to each individual printer, enabling him to see for himself that the Aquaprint technology brings him both environmental benefits and product quality when using his own raw materials (substrates, water-based pastes, designs), and that without disturbing his daily business).
