Sustainable transport model

Objective

To develop a computer package to assess the sustainability of development proposals in transport terms. This package should be usable by all Local Authorities across the EC.

To meet EC objectives and Department of Environment guidance on the integration of transport in land use and spatial planning, it is proposed to create a computer package which can readily assess the environmental impact of development proposals with regard to carbon dioxide and other emissions, noise and accidents. Research to be carried out by Argyroupolis (Greece) and Charleroi (Belgium) which will compliment work in Telford (UK) to verify and refine relationships between traffic flows and environmental impacts, and ensure the resultant transport model is applicable to any European urban area.

The model will be developed based on existing state of the art technologies with software development aimed at creating an easy to use system with high quality graphical output.
