Promoting responsible mineral sourcing through an open blockchain protocol

In responsible mineral sourcing, raw minerals are procured in a way that respects human rights and protects human health and the environment. The EU-funded MINESPIDER project aims to transform the entire raw materials industry so that information on its sustainability becomes transparent and a commodity. It therefore proposes an open blockchain protocol and decentralised application that will enable stakeholders to introduce and track the origins of the materials extracted, irrespective of how they have been transformed during manufacturing. The project will play a role in unifying and standardising international efforts to address the conflict minerals issue.

Objective

Founded in 2018, Minespider is an open blockchain protocol and DApp for creating digital certificates to track minerals along global supply chains.
Minespider provides the “Internet for the circulation of due diligence data packets”

Minespider has built strong brand equity and mindshare, being recognised by key players in global supply chains, strong media presence, plus relationships with leading industry and development groups such as the Responsible Minerals Initiative.

Built upon blockchain principles, we offer all stakeholders in the chain the opportunity to introduce and track the origins of the materials extracted, regardless of their transformation along the manufacturing process to create transparent and non-corruptible value chains and a trusted environment without the need for any middlemen.

Our protocol is innovative, public, free and decentralized - designed to transform the entire raw materials industry so that information on its sustainability becomes transparent and a commodity. The Minespider Protocol is comprised of three key elements:
1. The Blockchain Layer: Decentralized, so that no single entity controls supply chain data.
2. The Application Layer: Enterprise software that grants access to the protocol.
3. The SILQ utility token: Allows the system to function without centralized control.

This innovation is the central part of our strategy and is highly disruptive. Our mission is to establish the Minespider Infrastructure as the best practice in terms of responsible mineral sourcing and value chain tracking for all stakeholders - upstream, downstream and worldwide. Ultimately, our innovation drives our overall strategy to unify and standardize international efforts to address conflict minerals.
