European creative glass working

Objective

OBJECTIVES
The glass micro-enterprise sector is under-developed in Europe because of inadequate training, even though it constitutes a significant response to the decline of the traditional glass blowing industry. The days of big companies employing a large, unqualified work-force have gone, and the objectives and content of traditional training - taught up to now by professional colleges - are no longer relevant. Autonomy and polyvalence will become determinant. This project is a response to this problem through individualised and personalised training, of which the purpose is the creation of micro-companies offering innovative products on a local market, or to tourists.

ACTIVITIES
The partners will define first the knowledge and skills required, then will identify and request involvement from companies possessing real know-how in order to establish a network of resource companies. A reference system of available knowledge will be developed, those needs not yet covered will be identified, and new knowledge will be researched. Training modules will then be set up to provide learners with basic training in the creation of glass objects, with specialised technical training, as well as with basic knowledge in the management of small businesses. The companies will be involved in the learning system and a tutor (or mentor/coach) will be identified within each company. The partners will then proceed with experimental placements and with an evaluation of the training programme.

PRODUCTS
Besides the training modules which will be developed, a guide to European Glass Makers' competencies will be produced, and a validation of a common certification will be sought.
