Objective
OBJECTIVES
The aim of the project is to provide solutions to the serious adaptation problems experienced by gypsies living in settlements, by promoting their integration through work. The inactivity and heavy dependence of this target group on public aid leads to worrying cases of delinquency in several European cities. The objectives here are: to become better acquainted with the values and customs of the gypsies; and to use the technique of 'social profiling' to give them a better orientation and to promote their integration by employing them while still respecting their culture.
ACTIVITIES
The first step of the project will be to establish an observation site for studying the social profiles of the gypsies. This will be a resource centre where each partner can obtain information and the knowledge necessary for a structured approach to the target group and to their problems. Appropriate employment activities which will motivate the gypsies will then be defined through co-operative work between gypsy associations and public authorities. Particular emphasis will be placed on certain traditional jobs which had begun to die out but are now becoming fashionable again. The training of gypsy trainers in the selected jobs will form the final phase prior to the implementation of other minor integration projects.
PRODUCTS
- Creation of an observation site functioning as a resource and expert centre; the documentation produced here will be passed on to a "Gypsy Association".
- Training programmes.
- An integration methodology which respects different cultures.
