Information mediation for deaf learners and workers

Objective

OBJECTIVES
People who are hard of hearing are specially challenged when changes in work organisation require them to upgrade their skills, specialise or acquire new skills. This is an area where new communication technologies can come into play, as they can provide people with hearing problems with the opportunity of life-long learning. However, before this target group can use the available information, it must first be converted into an appropriate format by specialists. The objective of this project is thus to define professional profiles for these intermediate specialists in three predetermined main areas. It is hoped that the results of this project will contribute to increasing employment opportunities for people afflicted with deafness.

ACTIVITIES
The project will develop training materials, one core module and three specialist modules for deaf people wishing to enter initial vocational training, continuing vocational training or lifelong learning. Professional profiles for intermediate specialists will be developed and the training modules will be designed, tested and evaluated before being finalised.

PRODUCTS
The project will produce training materials and systems based on video-telephony.
