Objective
OBJECTIVES
This project is being developed as a response to the economic and social changes which are brought about by the need to ensure environmental sustainability. This has wide-ranging implications for companies, particularly SMEs, which must respond to new environmental legislation and standards. The aim of this project is to provide continuing vocational training in the management of environmental activities for SMEs and workers in SMEs, initially within the manufacturing and service sectors.
ACTIVITIES
The project will design and develop a jointly agreed series of short training modules based upon proprietary software. This will be customised, using a specially constructed menu-driven module to allow the partners to adapt this to the national priorities, sectoral and functional needs and to different languages. The modules will be piloted over a three-year period in groups of SMEs in the manufacturing, retail and services sectors in each of the partnership regions. The training will be delivered using a flexible distance learning approach via multimedia CD-ROM, and also via diskettes. Preparatory tutoring will be offered in the use of the software, and a telephone help-line will be established by each of the partner regions.
PRODUCTS
The results of the project will be a new flexible training package in the management of environmental activities consisting of a range of modules customised to the needs of SME managers and workers. The package will be suitable for a wide range of skill training both at a basic and advanced level (NVQ or equivalent).
