Capacity building in regional economic development agencies

Objective

OBJECTIVES
The development of the regions and their social and economic cohesion is essential to the growth of a strong and healthy European Single Market. Networking skills, partnership building, effective management of social capital and institutional learning abilities are the new requirements for human resource development in building the 'intelligent region'. This project will provide practical training tools and a modular curriculum, agreed across the regions of the EU, to assist regional development agencies to train their staff.

ACTIVITIES
The project will be carried out by two co-ordinated and inter-locking multiplayer partnerships - the research partnership of universities' economic development research departments and the strategic partnership of senior managers working in regional economic development agencies. The partners will design, develop and test a training curriculum and programme for business support agents which matches the needs of the regional economic agency, the small business community and the regional economy.
