The Learning Network of the ACEA (Association des Constructeurs Européens de l'Automobile)

Objective

OBJECTIVES
The European motor industry needs to face numerous changes in terms of rationalisation and innovation. Furthermore, from 1999 onwards, it will need to face Japanese competition when the barriers to motor vehicle imports come down. The European Association of Car Manufacturers (EACM) and its members have agreed to create an EACM apprentice network and provide a better response to these major challenges. The objective of this network - which consists of a number of well-known universities, unions and other important organisations in the sector - is to develop an approach which can improve co-operation in areas such as education, training and transfer.

ACTIVITIES
The EACM training group will meet twice a year in Brussels and, in general terms, be responsible for directing the network as well as organising and co-ordinating it. Each year, a group of experts will be responsible for organising three seminars to produce reports and guides on the training. In addition, this group will need to offer advice to the EACM group. Finally, a secretariat - based at the Mercedes-Benz site in Gaggenau - will be responsible for gathering information, organising meetings of the group of experts and publishing a quarterly bulletin.
