Objective
OBJECTIVES
The great diversity of languages across Europe slows down the mobility of human resources considerably, therefore it would be beneficial for everyone if European workers were to use their skills in the area of greatest need, irrespective of national borders. This is why the partners in this project have decided to develop language training tailored to the individual profession. This multimedia-backed training will mean that professionals can acquire the vocabulary needed to do their job in another language quickly and without the usual constraints of a language course.
ACTIVITIES
Pilot training will be carried out first of all for the joinery trade and in the languages of the partners before being widened to include other professions and countries. The partners will initially analyse the vocabulary needs specific to the joinery trade and the different tasks which the latter has to complete in carrying out its work. They then incorporate the terms identified in a short story which follows the day-to-day work of the joiner. This animated story will be compiled on a CD-I and will enable a British joiner, for example, to obtain the simultaneous translation of an English word into German at the touch of a button. Symbols in the form of icons will be used for learning grammar and the acquisition of new words could be tested by the user in the form of self-testing. All the assets of interactive multimedia tools will be used to make the training as user-friendly as possible.
PRODUCTS
Setting up of a language training course customised to the joinery trade and in the languages of the partnership as multimedia software on CD-I. This language training model will sooner or later be widened in time to include other jobs and languages.
