Objective
OBJECTIVES
The companies in the tanning sector are obliged to comply in the long term with the increasing demands to respect the environment, if they do not want to bear the costs. A thorough knowledge and correct use of the products used here is a necessary condition for reducing the environmental impact of the leather industry. To help these companies remain competitive, this project intends to develop training and awareness modules in handling chemical products vital to the treatment of hides, which respect the environment and workers' safety.
ACTIVITIES
The partners thoroughly analyse the processes and products used to treat hides, define the environmental impact of each product and look for the best handling method for minimising harmful effects on the environment or workers' safety. This data is then used to develop interactive open and distance training software for qualified workers and technicians in the sector. After in-company testing of the final product, the partners make the necessary readjustments and distribute the training among the companies.
PRODUCTS
Production of interactive training software in handling chemical products vital to the treatment of hides which shows respect for the environment and workers' safety.
