European training via satellite

Objective

OBJECTIVES
In Devon and Cornwall tourism is the largest industry, and in some coastal resorts it supports 50 % of the working population. However, only 35 % of the region's workforce have been or are involved in training/development activities, compared with 65 % nationally. This project will promote vocational training and the acquisition of management skills in tourism to secure jobs and create new jobs through the improved efficiency and competitiveness of companies. The objective is also to strengthen transnational co-operation in this sector and to develop training modules which can be used at the workplace.

ACTIVITIES
The partners will set up a local network which can be easily accessed by interested parties. This network will make it possible to participate in teleconferences dealing with management in the tourist sector. They will identify satellite broadcast studios and the techniques used in educational broadcasts in order to create a training module in tourism management. They will evaluate the appropriateness of the modules created by drawing up a broadcast schedule which will be easily accessible and will create a document enabling the modules to be used optimally.

PRODUCTS
Documents and videos with directions to help others establish their own network will be produced and disseminated. A transnational training system will be delivered to more than 2,000 SMEs in the tourist sector.
