The offshore oil and gas industries safety representatives education and training project

Objective

OBJECTIVES
The offshore oil and gas industry is of strategic importance to Europe's energy needs. Major breakdowns in health and safety in this industry account for 14 % of individual oil companies' costs. The aim of this project is to develop vocational training modules in hygiene and safety in order to improve access to quality training and to improve the safety standards currently in force in the offshore oil and gas industry.

ACTIVITIES
The main activities of the project will be to organise transnational meetings in order to obtain a consensus of the aims to be pursued with regard to safety measures and to produce standard measures validated by all Member States of the EU. The partners will jointly create open-learning tools, manuals for trainers and training material relating to new safety measures. Hard copy training material will be converted into electronic form for telematic delivery.

PRODUCTS
The project will produce comprehensive training materials in a format that can easily be updated to take account of legal and technical change. They will consist of open training systems dealing with new safety measures and telematic and paper material translated into four languages.
